Rug Pads
A rug pad can reduce sliding and bunching under an area rug. Wrong thickness or cut-to-size mistakes can still leave trip edges. Plan fit before you order.
Start here
Pads work with many unbacked rugs. They do not replace careful edge checks. For the rug itself, see non-slip rugs. Wet-area bath mats stay on the Bathroom hub.
When a rug pad may help
A pad may help when a rug walks across hard floors, wrinkles in a hall, or lifts at corners. It is less helpful when the rug itself is oversized, folded, or too thick for a cane or walker to clear.
Compare pad qualities
Thickness: check whether a thinner pad keeps the combined edge lower.
Grip side: compare manufacturer notes for hardwood, tile, or other finishes.
Cut size: check whether the pad should stop short of the rug edge so the border can lie flatter.
Felt vs rubber-style: compare floor-finish notes and cleaning needs on the product label.
